Our Programs

Our programs are designed to provide young people with learning opportunities and educational classes that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf. Our goal is for the young people to complete The First Tee Life Skills Experience and learn to live by our Nine Core Values™: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, and judgment.

Our programs are offered three times a year: spring, summer and fall. You can expect to see the 2013 spring schedules in February, with enrollment beginning in early March. Summer schedules should be available in April, with enrollment beginning in May. Fall schedules should be available by late June with enrollment beginning in late July or early August. Please contact our Director of Programming, Secah Shahib, if you have any questions regarding our programs or what level your child should register for. The First Tee of Greater Kansas City Mentoring Program

Another way to get involved with The First Tee of Greater Kansas City is to become a mentor. The goal of our mentor program is to give each participant a positive role model to look up to and confide in throughout the year and to create a bigger circle of influence for our students. As a mentor you can experience the thrill of making a difference in a child’s life through the game of golf, share new things, and help them to develop new skills. Overtime you will be able to see how your mentee is succeeding personally, athletically, and academically. You, in turn, will be part of a very rewarding and mutually beneficial friendship.

We are always accepting applications for new mentors & mentees. The Mentoring program traditionally meets on Tuesdays from 530-730pm, twice a month April through September and once a month October through March. This year we will start the mentor program on Tuesday, April 9th and will proceed every other Tuesday until October.

Please contact Ellen Fisher at efisher@thefirstteekc.org or 913-648-7177, ext. 3 if you are interested in becoming a First Tee of Greater Kansas City Mentor or Mentee. Please click here for the mentor application. Please click here for the mentee application.

The First Tee's Nine Healthy Habits

In 2011, The First Tee introduced a new component to The Life Skills Experience, The First Tee's Nine Healthy Habits. Once recognizing a child's development as more than skills, whether golf skills or life skills, The First Tee teamed with the Annika Foundation and created The Nine Healthy Habits. The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits represent a comprehensive approach to youth wellness and are organized under three categories of pysical, emotional, and social health. Participants who progress within The First Tee Life Skills experience will learn age and developmentally appropriate health and wellness behaviors at each level of the curriculum.
