The First Tee is a 501c3 nonprofit youth development organization. Our mission is to provide youth with educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. Our programs are delivered at golf courses, in elementary schools (The First Tee National School Program) and at youth centers (The First Tee DRIVE).
The First Tee offers group lessons to all youth ages 7-18, regardless of background or previous experience. All we ask is young people come with an open mind and positive attitude.
We’re closer than you think.

Chapters provide access to clubs and balls. No need for special golf attire.
Our coaches are trained in positive youth development. That means they are experts in making young people feel comfortable and assure they have a positive, non-intimidating experience.
Participants move through levels over time (PLAYer, Par, Birdie, Eagle, Ace) that introduce new and more advanced concepts of golf and life skills that help build character on and off the course.
Absolutely! Young people can burn up to 800 calories walking 9 holes of golf and coaches make lessons competitive while having fun. As participants get older, they have the chance to compete at national events held across the country.
No worries—chapters offer full scholarships or reduced fee programming for those with financial need.
There are a few ways you can bring The First Tee to your community.
- Bring The First Tee National School Program to your elementary school: This program introduces elementary students to golf during physical education class.
- Develop a chapter: This process takes about two years and includes developing a 501c3 tax exempt entity. Please contact the Director of Regional Affairs (part of the Network Management team) in your area for more information.
- Partner with an existing chapter: Each chapter delivers programs at multiple sites. Consider working with an existing chapter to become an additional location. Contact a chapter in your area or state.
- Bring The First Tee DRIVE to your local youth center: This activity-based program was specifically designed and written for youth-serving organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club and the Y.
